Why do I need an animal behavior consultation?
Sometimes an animal behavior problem goes beyond the educational limits and experience of a dog trainer or obedience instructor and requires the expertise of a qualified animal behavior counselor. Our counselors are board certified by the Board of Professional Certification of the Association of Companion Animal Behavior Counselors and have completed theoretical and practical college-level course work and an internship in an animal behavior clinic.
How can you fix my problem without seeing my dog?
All dog behavior problems can be classified into certain diagnostic categories, e.g. fear aggression, separation anxiety, compulsive disorder, etc. from examining a written history, interviewing family members and understanding the stimulus/response relationship and the context in which responses occur. In many cases, this is enough data to make a clinical diagnosis, prepare a treatment plan for the family to follow, and to consult with the family veterinarian if medical tests and/or pharmacological intervention is necessary. Follow-up calls regarding the efficacy of the treatment plan are then done to allow for adjustments to behavior modification if necessary.
What is your guarantee?
Animal behavior, like human behavior, can be treated with no guarantee of success. Each of our counselors is trained in this field and has many years, and hundreds of cases, of experience. We will develop the best treatment plan possible. However, remember that you, the family member, must follow our instructions, be consistent with your companion animal, be careful not to reinforce inappropriate behavior, and inform us of your progress.
What is the cost of a telephone consultation?
The fee for a companion animal (dog, cat or bird) behavior problem telephone consultation is U.S. $125.00, payable by a major credit card on a secured server via PayPal. Consultations usually last around 60-90 minutes. You will receive a return collect telephone call within 24 hours in most cases. Two follow-up telephone calls (or emails) within 6 months of the original consultation are included at no additional cost.
