Helping us to Help Animals

Homeless dog photo

AFAR, and its Queens Community Animal Shelter, is a not-for-profit IRS 501C(3) charitable animal welfare organization that is not supported by any government funding. We operate solely through the generosity of our donators, the families we service in our community; those who genuinely love animals. You can help us by volunteering your time at our shelter, and/or by making any of several donation types. All donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Types of Donations
An automatic monthly donation to our General Shelter Fund
A one-time donation to our General Shelter Fund
A one-time donation to one of our Project Funds
A bequest from your estate
A one-year memorial for your departed companion animal

Automatic Monthly and One-time Donations
These donations can be processed automatically each month using a major credit card. Your name, city and state will appear on our Monthly Supporter web page and in the lobby of our animal shelter. Revenue from monthly donators goes helps us to pay the rent, utilities, animal care staff, replacement equipment, and medical and food supplies. This money helps to keep our shelter operating allowing us to continue to take in, care for and adopt homeless cats and dogs. Click here to set up a regular monthly deduction via our secured debit or credit card server.

Donations to Our Project Funds
Project funds allow us to make improvements or expansions to our shelter facility or the services we provide. To find out about what projects are currently being funded, please visit our Current Projects web page.

A Bequest from your Estate
We often hear from sponsors who tell us how satisfied they feel to be using their financial resources to help homeless animals in need. It makes them feel like they're making a difference--and being wise stewards of their money.

We believe in applying that same care when planning your estate. Most of us would agree that estate planning is important, yet a surprising number of Americans haven't made even basic preparations for their passing. According to Consumer Reports, 70 percent of American adults don't have a will. Sadly, many will die without making their wishes known, leaving family or the government to sort out critical estate details.

To learn more about making our animal foundation a benefactor in your will and its estate-planning services, contact our president, Robert DeFranco, at 718-205-0200 ext. 12.
