elcome to the Queens Community Animal
Shelter, a division of the American Foundation for Animal Rescue in Rego Park in New York City. We are a not-for-profit "no-kill"
animal shelter that has no government funding, and exists solely on the low cost comunity services we provide, the donations that come
from animal lovers like yourself, and grants from animal-friendly organizations. "No-kill" means that we never allow one of our cats or
dogs to be euthanized unless the quality of life of the animal is so bad, due to medical problems, that it is the most humane thing to
do.
Most of our animals spend no more than one year at our facility since we are an urban aniaml shelter and not a sanctuary. However, we
do have several animals that are not re-homeable for medical or behavioral reasons. These animals live with us, most probably for the
rest of their lives.
We provide dogs with daily walks, exercise and play time, meals, medical attention and grooming. Cats receive much of the same care
except for the walks. We are thankful to all of our volunteers including the Saturday program of volunteers through the New York Cares organization.
