Volunteering at Queens Community Animal Shelter

Why volunteer?

As people search for ways to enrich their lives, many are giving their personal time and skills to the community. Others are looking for new routes to personal and professional development. Individuals with special needs are becoming empowered to take charge of their lives and want a chance to contribute their energies to helping others. In short, more and more people are considering volunteering.

Animal shelters need volunteers.  Their budgets are slim and their need for human assistance to care for their animals are great.  the Queens Community Animal Shelter could not survive without the help of volunteers and the community leaders that coordinate their help.

We are grateful for the enthusiastic and dedicated group of volunteers that support the work of the Queens Community Animal Shelter.  Here's how you can help:
  • Be a Pet Pal (walk dogs, groom dogs, and socialize cats and kittens)
  • Provide foster care for a dog or cat in your home
  • Help with periodic bulk mailings and community events
  • Assist in fund-raising and donor communication
  • Do laundry, clean kennels
  • Work at our Happy Tails Day Care Center (coming soon!)
  • Provide office support (filing, copying, answer the phone, etc.)

To become a volunteer at the Queens Community Animal Shelter, you must complete a Volunteer Application* and attend a general orientation. Download the application here.

*Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and have a valid form of photo I.D. Volunteers under 18 years of age must obtain parent or guardian permission.

Thanks to our many volunteers!
